When Is the Worst time to drink tea or coffee? Expert weighs in
While we all enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea to begin our days, drinking them when they are not recommended can have a negative impact on our health. Do you know when to avoid drinking these beverages? Find out from experts when you should avoid these beloved beverages.
What is the safest amount of tea or coffee? According to the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR), both contain caffeine that stimulates the nervous system and may lead to dependency. The daily caffeine limit should not exceed 300 milligrams. Instant coffee contains 50 to 65 mg caffeine per 150ml, while tea has 30 to 65 mg.
Recently, the Ayurvedic expert Dr Dixa Savaliya shared her insights on Instagram regarding when to avoid tea and coffee. Here are three times you should steer clear of these beverages.
1. Dr Savaliya recommends against starting the day with a warm cup of coffee or tea. When caffeine is consumed without food, it can affect the production of cortisol - the stress hormone - and leave you feeling anxious.
2. With MealsDoes your tea or espresso go well with a meal, snack or dessert? You should reconsider this habit. Both coffee and tea can be acidic. This can make digestion difficult. Tea can cause protein to become harder and more difficult to digest when consumed with it. If consumed after a meal, tea may interfere with iron assimilation. Avoid coffee and tea at least 30 minutes before and after meals to optimise digestion.
3. If you enjoy a nightly cup of tea, know that caffeine can have a negative impact on your health. Dr. Savaliya advises that caffeine should be avoided at least six hours before going to sleep, but preferably 10 hours. By avoiding caffeine after 4 pm, you can improve sleep quality, detoxify your liver, reduce cortisol and promote better digestion.
Avoiding tea and coffee at these times will allow you to enjoy your favorite drinks without risking your health.
